WordPress is a popular platform for sharing content, but many beginners don’t know about all the ways you can control who sees your posts. Sometimes, you might want to create a blog post that only certain people, like family members or close friends, can read. Or maybe you want only a special group of users to see it. This guide will show you how to protect your posts by requiring a password or user registration.
Visibility Options in WordPress
When you write a post in WordPress, there is a Visibility option that is set to Public by default. If you click Edit next to it, you will see options like Password Protected and Private.
Password Protection
The simplest way to protect your post is by adding a password. To do this, select the Password Protected button and add the password you want to use. Only people who know the password (like family or friends) will be able to see your post. This method is great for personal blogs where you want to share content with a limited audience.
Private Posts
If you only want to share a post with your editors or administrators, you can use the Private option. This will make the post visible only to users with Administrator and Editor roles. This method is often used in corporate settings to test posts for errors before making them public. However, this might not be suitable for all situations.
Advanced Content Protection
There are more advanced ways to protect your content, such as creating membership sites. These methods offer more control over who can see your posts and will be covered in detail in future guides.
