Do you want to add a watermark to your images on WordPress automatically?
Adding watermarks to your images can help prevent theft and misuse while increasing brand recognition. For photographers, it also adds a professional touch.
In this article, we’ll show you how to easily add watermarks to your WordPress images.
Why Add a Watermark to Images in WordPress?
A watermark is a semi-transparent logo, text, or pattern placed on top of your images. It’s designed to be visible without being too distracting, making it harder for people to use your images without permission.
Watermarks are especially useful for photography websites or visual portfolios. They can prevent image theft and help promote your brand by displaying your logo, URL, or tagline.
If you sell photos online, watermarks can also protect your work. People will have to buy the image to get a version without the watermark.
Now, let’s see how to add watermarks to your WordPress images. We’ll cover different methods, so you can choose the one that suits you best:
- Using Envira Gallery (Recommended)
- Using Easy Watermark (Free)
- Adding Watermarks Manually
- Bonus: Disable Right-Click on Images
Method 1: Using Envira Gallery (Recommended)
Envira Gallery is a top WordPress gallery plugin with a watermarking feature. It lets you create beautiful, mobile-friendly galleries with ease.
First, install and activate the Envira Gallery plugin. You will need the premium version to access the watermarking feature. Enter your license key found on the Envira Gallery website.
Next, go to the Envira Gallery » Addons page and install the Watermarking addon.
To add watermarks to your images, go to Envira Gallery » Add New and create a new gallery. In the ‘Currently in your Gallery’ section, select the ‘Watermarking’ tab and enable watermarking. Choose an image (around 150×150 pixels) to use as your watermark, and set its position and margin.
Upload images to your gallery, configure additional settings like lightbox options and responsiveness, then publish your gallery.
To add the gallery to a post or page, use the Envira Gallery block and select your gallery. Publish the post or page, and you’ll see your images with watermarks.
Method 2: Using Easy Watermark (Free)
For a free solution, use the Easy Watermark plugin. Install and activate the plugin, then go to Tools » Easy Watermark and click ‘Add New Watermark.’
Name your watermark and choose between an image or text watermark. Configure the text options (font size, color, angle, opacity), and set the alignment.
In the ‘Applying Rules’ section, select the image sizes for the watermark and enable ‘Auto Watermark’ to add watermarks automatically upon upload. Save your changes.
To apply watermarks to existing images, go to the ‘Tools’ tab in Easy Watermark, select the watermark, and click ‘Start.’
Adding Watermarks Manually
If you prefer to add watermarks manually, uncheck the ‘Auto Watermark’ option in the Easy Watermark settings.
Go to the Media » Library page, select the images, choose ‘Watermark’ from the dropdown menu, and apply the watermark.
Bonus: Disable Right-Click on Images
To further protect your images, disable right-click to prevent users from saving them. Install and activate the No Right Click Images plugin. The plugin automatically disables right-clicking on your images.
For additional settings, go to Settings » No Right Click Images and disable dragging, touch events, gesture events, and any other loopholes.
